Drama Review - Color Rush

I had a whole review for Color Rush typed out yesterday and then it was cruelly ripped from me by poor HTML formatting, so today I try again.

Color Rush is a Korean BL set in a world like ours but with 1 difference. There are people called Monos who can only see in greyscale, except when they meet their Probe. A Mono will then, so it goes, become obsessed with their Probe and driven to ever more desperate acts to keep them.

Yeonwoo is a Mono who lives with his Aunt because his mother, also a Mono, is missing. He is determined never to meet his Probe. Unfortunately, when he transfers to a new all-boys school, he meets Yoohan, an idol trainee and his Probe.

Content warnings for attempted suicide in ep 7 and mentions of murder and kidnapping the whole way through.

This drama was honestly so wild. For such a short amount of time, so much happened. I'm always fond of a narrative where someone is trying to reject fate and keeps getting dragged back into it so it was honestly WILD to have Yoohan be so utterly determined to get his claws into Yeonwoo while Yeonwoo desperately tries to reject him while wanting the colours so much.

Yeonwoo is so repressed, it's honestly magic seeing him come out of his shell in the last episode and allow himself to enjoy being with Yoohan. I think part of it was him learning that he's the only face Yoohan can recognise, that he's special to Yoohan in a way similar to how Yoohan is special to him. I think Yoohan also really likes that colour is something only he can give to Yeonwoo.

I really liked how Yoohan goes out to find a bunch of really colourful things to show Yeonwoo, once Yeonwoo has agreed to hang out. It was really sweet. Even if Yoohan did his level best to get Yeonwoo addicted to seeing his face in the first couple episodes xD Yeonwoo is just as dramatic and fully does not question it at all when Yoohan asks him to run away with him from the hospital.

There's something very enjoyable about watching two people with very grey morals devote themselves to each other. Like, it's unhealthy as fuck but it's also enthralling. These two in particular felt like a train crash that managed to miss each other right at the last second and it's so much, but it's very fun. They were both willing to give up everything for each other and that's very sexy!

Also the side characters are lots of fun, even the nurse who's the least helpful person in existence. I really enjoy Yeonwoo and Yoohan's classmates especially, they're so funny!

I can't wait for Season 2 T-T
