As soon as I start reviewing dramas, I start bingeing a bunch. I make so much work for myself lmao.

The past couple days I've been bingeing Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo which I was recommended like 2 or 3 years ago when I watched Strong Girl Do Bong Soon (which I absolutely adored and might rewatch). Kim Bok Joo did not disappoint! The stories are very different from each other but the vibes, especially between the main couple, are very similar. Which is good for me, because I adore them. Both of these shows have 'strong woman and the man who's obsessed with her' with a generous helping of 'being a dick because you like someone'. It was nice that the stakes were lower in this one though, sometimes a light hearted university romance is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I really loved how completely gone Jun-hyung was for Bok-joo from like the 2nd episode. He's such a little boy pulling little girl's pigtails and, on one hand, that kind of behaviour is shitty irl, but on the other it's kinda adorable in a drama like this one. Like, he wants her attention all the time and he's such a dick to get it! But Bok-joo is hot when she's angry so I 100% relate.

My only real complaint is that the plotline where she has a crush on his brother went on for so long. It was cute to see how much he was willing to do for her but I feel like Jae-i's relationship with Dr Go could have had more time if they'd cut Bok-Joo's crush shorter, though it was cute to see her all starry-eyed.

And also that they had a 'men and women can't be friends' talk lmao, that was a dick move. I disagree entirely.

I loved that the weightlifting team were allowed to eat lots of food, but it was kinda unbelievable that everyone thought Kim Bok-joo was fat. The costume department did their best but she was very normal sized. Though, I do know that sizing is different in Korea, so perhaps my take on it is coloured by that.

But!!! Kim Bok-joo and Jung Jun-hyung were so cute!! I loved how they were always wishing each other well and wanting the best for each other, even before they were dating. I loved how they sent each other cute texts and were sad when they couldn't see each other. I loved that they helped each other out and actually enjoyed spending time with each other.

Now I'm a little older I can also appreciate the jealousy stuff too. If someone dating me in real life was that grumpy with me for relatively innocuous things I'd be like 'You need therapy' [WHICH, SIDE NOTE, JUN-HYUNG ACTUALLY GOES TO (but then his therapist is like 'dating is the best way to cure anxiety' which is wack)] but, in media, I can appreciate someone being a little bit unhinged about their bae, yanno? It's fun to watch. There's some quote about how villains can be all in for their love interest, they don't have to put anything else first, and I think it applies to like romance characters too. Because their whole thing is being all in for this one person, it's very satisfying.

Anyway, I want a special episode where they get to go to the Olympics together.
